Keeping the road to be one of the most influent female artist of our time.

The artistic practice of Austrian painter Maria Lassnig has been constantly forgotten as one of the greatest female artists of our times. With a strong figurative archive and a peculiar palette of colors, her painting compositions grow apart in a dimension of disturbing suffering: human abstractions living in eternal emotional distress.

Fortunately, that has coming changed in recent years, mostly by the impulse given by the Golden Lion awarded at the 2013 Venice Biennale as recognition for her painter career. Lassnig got the international recognition until that moment, just one year before she died. Lassnig (1919-2014) focus her compositions in an intense use of color in abstractions of human figures to express hidden under skin feelings. Her brushes are intense and her self-portraits unique.

So, with an increasing interest to discover her original art work, big brands in the museum world has put an eye in the imagery of her internal world and they have prepared exhibitions to honored her and appreciate all the possible angles of the artist. MoMA at New York City did it in 2014, and the TATE Liverpool did the consequent effort in 2016. Galleries in London have continued in 2017 the promotion of the Lassnig transcendental visual achievements: Hauser & Wirth and the Sothebys S|2. Last one in preparation of an auction of some representative paintings.

But now the time has coming for Austria and Italy again to spread and impulse the recognition of this female artist. Impulse that could do that she becomes one of the most influent painters in the XXI century.

Thus, with a collection of watercolors and drawings the Albertina in Vienna gives tribute to Lassnig life’s pieces. Full of dramatics, this drawings function as sketches to the conception of the new paintings; nevertheless by themselves, they constituted heartrending examples of the feelings represented in bodies and portraits from the aesthetical efforts in the art practice of Maria Lassnig. Around 80 artwork pieces take its time to be show at the Albertina, images with her usual visual power that is being recognized in Europe capitals. “Dialogues, Maria Lassnig. Retrospective of drawings and watercolors” runs until 27 august 2017.

The Gallerie degli Uffizi in Firenze presents “Woman Power” an exhibition that shows 25 paintings done from 1960s to 2000s. The viewers will enjoy the two amazing dead nature compositions on canvas elaborated in the 1970s; these are examples of mastery in the reinterpretation of reality: going a step ahead, she builds a cold atmosphere where the composition comes alive from the vibrant red fruits and vegetables. Additionally, “Woman Power” - painted in 1979, and the one that untitled the exhibition, it will be available to the public interested. This oeuvre could be considered a declaration of the new positioning pursued by the female role in society; here a giant female figure crosses the minified city totally confident in her nude body, her blurred face keeps the sight to sky. The woman walks without destroy the buildings and forcing the individual ego to go ahead into a new future perspective surrounded by a blue sky at dawn. The event runs until 25 June 2017.
