Deeply compromised with working with paper on the creation of beauty, Asian artisans have transferred her millenarian knowledge to those called fine contemporary artist. The beautiful artwork from textures, forms and rhythms created on, and now, from paper are part of the artistic explorations of those creators, creators who still working on frames where usually we expect to see paintings. This way, the material properties help to expand the visual language of the forms.

With this philosophy in mind, Blum & Poe Tokyo Gallery opens an art space to exhibit the work of three artists that during the 1960 decade begin their careers from different geographies, perspectives and foundations. The future common ingredient will be the dedication to explore the aesthetical frontiers of working with paper.

First of them is Kwon Young-woo (1926-2013) who is associated with the idea of monochrome painting movement in the 1970’s Korean art. The selection for this exhibition shows the visual dialogues constructed by Kwon from building textures with harmonic disintegration of the material. The second proposal comes from Rakuko Naito – b. 1935, who explores the reaches of geometry and repetition on the compositions of her emotional paper surfaces, educated in traditional Japanese painting techniques, she moves to the expressive forces of handmade forms with paper. The exhibition closes with the inclusion of the minimal constructions done by lines of flexed paper by Dorothea Rockburne - b. 1932.

"Systemic Paper" runs until June 17, 2017.
